PRESS RELEASE ON THE LETTER TO THE HOLY FATHER, SIGNED BY EMMA BONINO, MARCO PANNELLA, OTTAVIO LAVAGGI, OLIVIER DUPUIS AND GIORGIO PAGANO, UNTIL HE EXPRESSES THE USUAL EASTER ADDRESS IN ESPERANTO
The Radical Party, in light of the Easter March for the permanent International Tribunal Constitution for crimes against humanity and for the universal death penalty moratorium to which the mayors and citizens of the world will participate at, has sent a letter to the Holy Father that asks him to give his Easter blessing, this Sunday, in the international language, Esperanto.
The pope, through the various Ministries of the Roman Curia, has proven the benevolence of the esperanto movement time and time again: starting from the fact that the Missal Festivity in the Esperanto language has been recognised by the Pontifical Council for the lay Catholic Esperanto International Union; from greetings to goodbyes, the words used to address the peopl who congregated at Czestochowa for World Youth Day in 1991, to the blessing that the Holy Father used to participate at the universal Esperanto Congress that was held in Valencia, Spain, last summer.
The motiviations behind this letter, signed by Emma Bonino, Marco Pannella, Ottavio Lavaggi, Olivier Dupuis and Giorgio Pagano, rise from the firm belief that if the International language were to be added to the list of languages already used by the pope to give blessings, then, at Easter, it could constitute a further and concrete message in favour of the Esperanto language, for christian and non-christian people alike, in order to continue the progress towards understanding and against hate, and in favour of dialogue over violence.
During the Easter march, our banner will be flying, screaming "NE ESTAS PACO SEN JUSTECO" (there’s no peace without justice).
